Strap on your hiking boots and layer up, because on Jan. 17, Hocking Hills will begin our yearly six-mile trek from Old Man’s Cave to Ash Cave.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the historic hike, and much like every other year, we expect thousands of hikers to flock to Old Man’s Cave to take part in this annual journey.

If you’ve ever seen Hocking Hills in the winter, you know why this yearly hike is so popular. A frozen Hocking Hills has to be seen with the naked eye to truly be appreciated. The winter weather transforms the beautiful landscapes and formations into breathtaking natural works of art, and makes a fantastic photo opportunity for amateurs and professionals alike.

You’ll even have the opportunity to snap photos with your fellow hikers at the Say Social! photo booth. Take prints with you as our gift to you! Make sure to check the Hocking Hills Tourism Association Facebook page after the event so you can tag yourself and share your photos with friends.

Hike and cabin rental details

The trek will begin at the Old Man’s Cave parking lot and have continuous starts between 9 and 11 a.m. Remember to dress in warm layers and lace up some sturdy, worn-in footgear. Refreshments such as bean soup and hot cocoa will be available at Cedar Falls for a small donation. And once you’ve reached the destination of Ash Cave, a shuttle bus will return hikers to Old Man’s Cave.
